abstract

this paper aims at studying a trigeneration system, based on an internal combustion engine and a steam ejector refrigeration system. the designed cycle is to generate cooling and heating energies, and supply power simultaneously. the cycle is studied from thermodynamics point of view and for this purpose, the first law of thermodynamics is applied to all components of the cycle. the efficiency of the cycle is studied by changing parameters such as the pinch point temperature, evaporator temperature, heat generator temperature, and temperature of condenser to simulate summer and winter seasons. the results show an increase in the fuel efficiency up to 88% in winter and 71% in summer, and also a 28% fuel savings in winter and 18% in summer.

Energetic and Exergetic Analysis of Internal Combustion Engine Cogeneration System

In this article, the first and second law analysis of diesel engine based cogeneration system was performed. Fuel utilization efficiency, rate of power, and rate of process heat of the plant were determined and various efficiencies based on both energy and exergy methods and the performance assessment parameters are defined for both the system components and the entire cogeneration plant. The o...

Design and Thermodynamic Analysis of a Steam Ejector Refrigeration/Heat Pump System for Naval Surface Ship Applications

Abstract: Naval surface ships should use thermally driven heating and cooling technologies to continue the Navy’s leadership role in protecting the marine environment. Steam ejector refrigeration (SER) or steam ejector heat pump (SEHP) systems are thermally driven heating and cooling technologies and seem to be a promising technology to reduce emissions for heating and cooling on board naval su...

Integration of an Ammonia-water Absorption Refrigeration System with a Marine Diesel Engine: A Thermodynamic Study

This paper examines through a thermodynamic analysis the feasibility of using waste heat from marine Diesel engines to drive an ammonia-water absorption refrigeration system. An energy balance of a diesel engine shows that sufficient waste heat is provided. The results illustrate that higher performance of the system is obtained at high generator and evaporator temperatures and also at low cond...
